Large RRGs See Healthy Premium Growth in 2011
RRG premium in 2011 was $2527.7M a drop of $8.8M from the restated 2010 premium of $2536.5M. NRRA Challenges Statements in GAO Report
The National Risk Retention Association (NRRA) is challenging a recently issued report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on the grounds that the document contains errors. Joseph Deems, the executive director of the NRRA, wrote a letter to Alicia Puente Cackely, the director of the Financial Markets and Investment Division for the GAO, highlighting NRRA’s concerns and asking the GAO to fix what the group sees as mistakes in the report. ... Royce Objects to NAIC’s Changing Role in Letter

Traditional MedMal Insurers Moving to Form RRGs
Five new risk retention groups have been formed in recent years by traditional medical malpractice insurers seeking flexibility and agility in the face of fast-paced changes in the healthcare marketplace. Most of these new RRGs are regional enterprises intended to operate in limited territory to help their parent organizations expand into new markets, either to grow their own businesses or to serve the needs of their current customers. ...
